On Windows you can put the copy of the unpacked 'gcodetools' folder into "%APPDATA% \Inkscape\ extensions" (you can type this location into the address bar of the Explorer, if you don't know what the variable %APPDATA% resolves to on your computer). config/ inkscape/ extensions" (only the Finder commands to navigate there are Mac-specific). The path to the user extensions directory in the instructions I gave for the Mac does also apply for GNU/Linux: "$HOME/.

The extensions installed into the user Inkscape profile will also "survive" a re-install or upgrade of Inkscape itself:

I would recommend to install the extensions into the user Inkscape profile to avoid overwriting any files belonging to the original installation. On the Gcodetools page you can find generic instructions for Linux and Windows - don't hesitate to ask here if you need more details for your platform.
